THE SOCIAL SECURITY PARADIGM

The Best Age Isn’t Just About the Biggest Check.

Most Social Security advice starts by asking:

“How do I maximize my monthly benefit?”

And if that is the only goal, waiting longer can make a lot of sense.

Your benefit can grow.

Future COLA increases apply to a larger base.

And if you live a long time, that larger dependable paycheck can become extremely valuable.

But there is another side to the decision.

What are you giving up while you wait?

If claiming Social Security at 62 or 63 would close enough of your Retirement Income Gap to make work optional sooner, then waiting has a cost too.

Not just in money.

In time.

Maybe waiting until 67 gives you a larger check.

But maybe taking it earlier gives you back four or five of the youngest years you have left.

That tradeoff deserves to be measured too.

Social Security has a job.

Sometimes its job is to create the largest possible future paycheck.

Sometimes its job is to close part of your income gap today.

Sometimes other assets can support you for a few years while Social Security continues to grow.

And sometimes using those assets first is the better tradeoff.

There is no universally right claiming age because there is no universally identical retirement.

Your income needs matter.

Your other assets matter.

Your health matters.

Your family matters.

And most importantly:

What are you trying to make possible?

If waiting creates a better life, wait.

If starting earlier helps make work optional while you are younger, that deserves to be considered too.

Don’t just maximize Social Security.

Maximize what Social Security can do for your life.

YOU NEVER KNOW

Could Work Already Be Optional?

Let's put everything on the table and find out what moves could close your Retirement Income Gap.
